These are out of camera.
They were taken in aperture priority mode with the only camera setting change being the metering mode.

Note the significant differences in the resulting shutter speeds.
I have not yet pursued the ramifications, but find it fascinating.

Good test. 

Centre weighted and spot are very close as they should be by the exposure times.

Personally, I always use spot metering and it usually works for me. I have tried using

other metering but I find that spot metering produces results that I find more acceptable.

I try to find a “neutral” area of contrast in the scene I am focusing on and adjust camera

settings to suit that – exposure time f-stop etc.

I don’t trust any setting other than manual and the meter while I leave it on evaluative I rarely use it. I find metering by eye gets me close to where I want and a quick LCD screen check and I’m dialed in where the meter is consistently off from what I want. Oksana has a metering mode video somewhere where she does tests with the different modes and results she got.
