Hello everyone. This is my first post to Oksana’s cool Easy Exposure forum!

I live close to this big shiny silver ball. It’s in the middle of a small park, as you can see. On the other side of the ball (at a different angle) is a cityscape view of Charlotte, NC. But there are lots of distracting highway signs and power lines. I’ll try to get a shot of that angle and upload it, too.

I’ve tried shooting the ball several times, but I’m just not satisfied so far. I’ve contemplated to try coming back at night or after sunset. But even if I did that, I just don’t have any idea how to shoot it or what to do differently.

Help! What would you do? Ideas please.  Cool

Sometimes we find something that is really hard

to get a good picture of. Instead of getting frustrated

I would move on to something else. If I really had to

get a shot of the ball I’d get much closer or use a telephoto

lens and crop everything else out.

Have fun and look for lots of other stuff to get great pics of!

I agree with Dale….

As there is lot of disturbance in the background…i would also have got closer to the ball

Still i like the reflection on the ball!!!

Thanks for the replies, Dale and Sam. I think I’m gonna take a break from it and shoot something else. When I’m ready to try it again, I’ll use your suggestions (zoom in, get a lot closer, etc.). I wanted to feature the whole ball, but there’s distracting backgrounds on every angle. I wish they would have installed the piece in the middle of the park grounds. But it’s sort of off to one side and right beside a walking path.

Maybe I’ll try to incorporate the moon/sun/clouds in the reflections or something. But for now, I’ll set it aside and aim at something else!  😀

Hello James… Welcome to our group.
We hope you enjoy our company and we look forward to seeing your postings.

Now… about that shiny silver ball….
I can certainly understand why you consider it a challenge.
As you can see, I did as well, and here is what I came up with.
Hope you don’t mind my messing with your ball.

Good effect created Mandrake!

I noticed that you also straightened the image out.

Dale.
