The Nikon 1 V1 with 10-30mm and 30-110mm Lenses for $446.95 looks like a fantastic deal.
I’ve had my eye on this little camera for awhile. It would be a nice walk around.
I would have to do more research, but I’m liking this deal.

Mandrake.

Mandrake, I test this camera almost 6 month ago, and is fantastic I did not buy only for the 10Mp
but to have as beach camera and walk around is nice deal, you can make focus in any condition.
If you have latitud in your budge made a deal. I gona find a pic that I made with it.

I would not be the person to ask on lenses because
I have only 1 Nikon lens and 3 Canon lenses.
Have you thought about renting any of the lenses you
are interested in to try for a weekend shoot?
I think that is the way I would go if I wanted to make sure
I was getting what I wanted.
The Nikon 1 V1 really does look like a great camera and, as
Mandrake stated – for under $450 it is something to consider.
The new Sony’s look really nice too but I think they are considerably
higher priced so that could be a deal breaker.
Sorry I can’t be of more help but good luck with any decisions you make.
Be sure to check out the store’s return policy too just in case you think
you could have done better and want a refund.

nikonguy;
So you use canon lens in nikon camera? which adapter u use?
Unfortunate in subsurvial state where I live there is only one place to rent and cost to me the same as buy one new so i will look in the web to read about the review.
I don’t know why we cannot import rusian lens in USA the have good lenses not as good as Leica, but I had a Kiev 35 mm camera that was very good.
I am going to try the Rokinon F1.4 is not bad for the price.

I think the V1 has gone down a lot in price since the V2 came out.
I’ve downloaded some raw samples and they look great after Lightroom.
As with most raw, they are a bit flat out of camera.

Patrick…. I know you avoid post processing….. Do yo shoot raw (lol), or jpeg?
Dale…….. I’m assuming you shoot raw. I’m still mostly a jpeg guy, but I do know raw is better.

Btw… I will be away for 2 days at hospital for quick double hernia operation.
Hope to walk better afterwards and and be able to take more photos.

Mandrake, initially had a bit of mistrust and seting camera in jpeg + raw now I just do it in raw, it reminds me of my darkroom without the disadvantage of chemistry, now prepare the solution to my taste.
I always wonder what could have done my idols in photography with these tools.
Now they say that there is something more than a certain DNG, but I think I’m a little old for most experiments.
Mandrake why you don’t jump here and make some shot there for my collection of lighthouse. It will be interesting see the perform of the D5100 in marine environment. As one lady said to me , ” Wow this camera make very good photos men”.

I don’t use a Canon lens in a Nikon camera – I wish it was possible and I would.
What I meant was I have 3 Canon lenses that I use on an older Canon Rebel xsi
and 1 Nikon lens that I use on my D7000.
It’s a shame that it costs so much to rent a lens for a couple of days where you live.
Personally I would try to buy a lens that was manufactured by the same company that
made my camera – Nikon/Nikon lens…Canon/Canon lens but there are some very good
lenses made by other manufacturers that get good reviews so it’s a tough question to answer.
Good luck on future choices…Dale

Well for me always brings some disadvantages, because you have to check the focus to see is the same as factory, because there are times when the impedance of the motors are not identical, and on my D5000 I cannot change but the D7000 have, I have had good results with sigma lenses and even I like them for metal and nikon plastic are not more stable to variations in weather but sometimes they fuck static and attract dust.
Of couse I notice that factory lens in that sense is better, but not at that cost men ,if at least they droped F/2:8 it will merit. What realy merit in lens is trasparency or in other way how fast is, if not is the same a bottom end of a CocaCola to the PesiCola..

There is always going to be debates on who is the best manufacturer of cameras
and lenses. That is a fact of life, and I am so glad that we do have choices.
I really do believe that there isn’t that much of a difference between different products
as we have advanced so far technologically. Some people like Coke and others like
Pepsi – same with cameras etc. Go with what you like and what your budget allows.
And most importantly – enjoy taking pictures because it really is a great hobby…Dale
