This photo was taken on a cloudy day after a snowstorm in New Brunswick, Canada. I am attaching the info from the raw file. I would like to know what I could have done different for a better photo. I was lucky to get this shot at such a low shutter speed, handheld. I would like to be able to do this shot again in the Spring, Summer & Fall, to see the difference in our seasons colors. I am still learning from watching Oksana’s videos. Thank-you Oksana, for helping us amateurs to learn photography. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

This is very nice photo, Gwen. I like your subject and composition. Good job holding the camera at 1/13. It looks like IS (Image Stabilization) in your lens really works. I don’t think you could have done anything better in the camera. Weather was really to your advantage. Cloudy means more even light with less contrast between shadows and highlights. You’ve got good details in white snow. You could have tried to play  with image in post (in Lightroom or Camera Raw) and see what you can come up with.

I think it is a wonderful idea  to take this photo during different seasons. We don’t have a huge difference between seasons in California and I miss it a bit.

Welcome to the forum Gwen… I think the picture would look great in B&W!

Hi Gwen – From a fellow Canadian.
I’m Dale and I live in Victoria, BC. We don’t see nearly as much
snow as the rest of Canada but you have taken a very nice picture
of it from New Brunswick. Everything from your shooting information
looks great and I don’t think you needed to do anything different.
I usually do post processing in Lr or Ps to bring out details if possible
but this picture looks fine.
I also agree with Oksana and mscharff – and it would look nice in b&w too!

Thank-you all for the nice compliments. Makes me very excited to get out and do some more shooting. And yes Dale we sure do get a lot of snow here in New Brunswick. Here it is in B&W.

It looks great in B&W, but for some reason I like it in color more. I like that glow behind the trees, which you don’t get with B&W.

Gwen

That B&W image makes me cold just looking at it!
We’re spoiled here on the West Coast and usually only
see scenes like that in pictures. Hope the weather gets a lot
warmer for you all soon and you have a great summer.
Gotta go now as I’m late for my tee off time lol!

You are so right! B&W made photo feel colder. Interesting!
