IMG_0055.jpgIMG_6580-1.jpgIMG_6583-1.jpgIMG_6586-1.jpgMadayipara is a flat topped hillock near by home,it has been found that the region contains about 300 flowering plants, about  30 varieties of grass, and several insect-eating plant species. it is also home to several rare medicinal herbs,   Coming to avian life, Madayipara sustains about 100 species of  butterflies and about 150 species of birds. Among the biggest butterflies in the world, the Atlas butterfly is a visitor to  Madayipara.

Madayipara is changes its color in each season, I have captured these pictures in summer season.

Nice pics but don’t throw a lit match in that grass lol!

Is the Atlas butterfly the same as the Atlas moth?

I have pics of the Atlas moth taken while I was visiting

a place called Butterfly Gardens up here in Victoria, British

Columbia where I live.

The Atlas moth only lives a few days after emerging from the

cocoon ( it can spend up to 5 years in that) after which it’s sole

purpose is to mate and then die.

Its wingspan can be the size of a dinner plate.

Dale.

It happens almost every summer, some smokers throw the cigarettes carelessly, and they are not bothered about the value of such a beautiful bio-diversity

Most of the Indians use the word butterfly instead of moth. I have never seen this Atlas moth. If you have pictures of these, please post it.

Thank you so much dale for your detailed information about Atlas Moth, this is new knowledge for me, really appreciated.

Very interesting set of images, Muneer! I like simplicity of the subject, colors, textures, angles and composition! Well done! #1 and 2 are my favorite. Also I like the angle on #3.
