I wanted to share my most favorite picture of all times! This is my Grandma. My Granddaddy took this photo many many many years ago. He was very much interested in photography and was always taking photos. One day I will digitally clean up the scratches and noise but something about the nostalgia of that draws me to it.grandma.jpg

Yes! A real picture not photoshopped and digitally enhanced!
I really love looking at old pictures. What came out of the camera
was the image we saw and not a made up interpretation of what
the photographer wanted us to believe was real.
Thanks for posting it.

Dale, they did manipulate photos in darkroom too back in a days. Look at work of Jerry Uelsmann. It is amazing.

I asked my Aunt about Granddaddy’s camera and she was not quite sure what time but all his photography was done in Germany so its a big possibility it was a German camera. She is for certain he used German paper. I believe I have a photograph of his camera somewhere. I will have to dig really hard.

Oksana
You are right – they did manipulate pictures in the old days.
I have talked about Ansel Adams and he was one of the
great manipulators of photographs.
But old photos look so natural and untouched and I guess
that’s what I like about them. I have been saturated lately
with HDR and over saturation of colours and everything else
that we are now able to do in post processing.

I would say when you restore this picture or any other don’t take grain out, I think grain makes and old photo alive. My opinion…
