Hi Guys, I am new in this forum and this is my first post. Last week I discover this site via Youtube and when I check out the site and forum I knew that I can learn a lot from you guys… Here’s a photo I took sometimes back. Critique and comments are welcome

(TOP) It is Haryanvi dress (People who live in Rajasthan, India), though the model is my friend. Canon 60D | 1/512 | F/5 | 250ISO

(BELOW) Haryanvi women. Canon 60D | 1/166 | F/5 | 200ISO

Welcome to the forum, siamnaulak

Very interesting portraits! I think I like the first one in color more. I like the second on too, but blow out highlights on your clothes bother me a bit. Did you shoot this in raw. I wonder if you could recover some highlights.

Thanks for pointing out the over exposed shirt… here is the original in color. Yes, I shoot in RAW.

I actually like it in color more.

B&W is not bad, but you need to control separate parts of the image when converting them into B&W. What program do you use?

Mostly I used Photoshop and Lightroom. For this I think it is Photoshop.

Lightroom has a number of Black and White presets.
I like “B&W Look 4” for portraits.
Then make some slider adjustments to taste in the Basic panel.
You will probably have to reduce contrast.

good advice to anyone interested!

Hi Mandrake, is this ‘B&W Look 4’ available in Lightroom 3? If yes, where can I find?

Siam… I’m not familiar with Lightroom 3, and don’t really know the presets.

Take a look and try the different ones that you have and see which you like best.

Presets in Lightroom can be a good starting point, but after setting a preset I would play with sliders.
