Hi guys, I’m thinking in buying a tripod for landscape and macro. 5-6kg of equipment max. I’m btw those two, and my problem is the head of the manfrotto, I think is not a pan head, but you think pan is really necessary? The only feature I see that could be important, is to do a panorama composition with various photos, without skipping the base angle… but this could be done in post-production…yes?
MANFROTTO 190XPROB with 496RC2 (no pan?) or 488RC2 (with pan but more heavy ball head, and I believe is not so recent)
OR
VANGUARD ALTA PRO 263AT with SBH100 (ball head with pan dedicated button)
The problem with the vanguard, is that the release plate is “slide kind” and not has Manfrotto that is “just place the camera right away” more practical. The other issue is the 1,73m of the Vanguard, that I don’t need. I just need a 1,40m to have the camera near my eyes.
If you use, heard some reviews or have an opinion about those tripods, please share your thoughts.

All reviews I have read put Manfrotto in the top 5 at least. I have a Manfrotto Monopod 680B and it is excellent.
I would buy Manfrotto tripods too, but alas, too costly for me.
You can’t really go wrong with manfrotto, got to a camera shop with your camera and ask for test to see how it goes.

Hello Daniela,
I just got the MANFROTTO 190XPROB. This is my first Manfrotto tripod. (I’m still waiting for the head Manfrotto MH054M0-Q2 054 Magnesium Ball Head with Q2 Quick Release).
so let me tell you about my first experience and impression of the tripod.
It weights about 4lbs.(without the head). The legs open to four positions. they extend very quickly and they lock very quickly too. The one feature that I love is the center column can be position horizontal as well as vertical. it looks very stable (I’m yet to try it outdoors) and solid. it even comes with a key or locking wrench to tighten the clips on the legs just in case they get loose. It has hook so you can add weight to it for more stability (I carry a small bungee cord which I clip to my camera backpack and tripod for stability). It feels solid, two of the legs have a rubber/foam like cover to make it easy to carry when wet or cold. It’s made in Italy too.
The head Manfrotto MH054M0-Q2 054 Magnesium Ball Head with Q2 Quick release allows you to pan 360 degrees. I should be getting it next week according to UPS tracking.. All and all, I’m very happy with my purchase
hopes this help.

Thanks all to your posts and advices. The VANGUARD ALTA PRO 263AT with SBH100 ball head won my heart. The only problem I have at the momment is to attach the Black Rapid classic strap into the plate… See my other post about this subject please.
