Went out to take some pictures of the super moon… but the weather really wasn’t clear, so as the saying goes, I made lemonade.  Thought they came out pretty good.  All taken with a Nikon D600 and Nikon 28-300 zoom lens on a tripod

1) 92mm ISO 100, f6.3 for 30 seconds

2) my son kicked the tripod by mistake… but it looks cool with two moons… 100mm, ISO 100 f6.3 for 30 seconds

3) same settings as 2

4) 300mm, ISO 100 f6.3 for 1/25

5) 100mm, ISO 100 f6.3 for 20 seconds

That’s some good lemonade! #5 is my favorite. Love the reflection, color, and trees. Great picture!

With that D600, I’m very curious to see how well #4 would hold up to a heavy crop and a bump in exposure, brightness, and contrast. With 24 MP to play with, I bet it would still look great. Please post the results if you decide to give it a shot.

#4 was cropped some, but I’ll crop it some more and post to see what you think.

I also found this website with some interesting photos

As requested, I cropped #4 even more and changed the exposure (even more)… I also put included the original picture prior to any changes.  Any better?

I really am liking what I see from your camera and lens!

You have a killer combination there and I’m seriously thinking

about going full frame in the future. I love my D7000 and would

keep it rather than sell it BUT I could see myself adding a D600

one day (or newer version the way Nikon and Canon pump out models).

Love the moon shots and the lemonade worked out great lol!

Thank you for posting the results. Can you go even tighter?   Cool   Try cropping in to show just the moon filling the frame. Then up the exposure maybe 1-2 stops, sharpen, and adjust blacks/whites.

This is mostly experimental to satisfy personal curiosity. My D90 is 12MP. So I’m anxious to see how much of a difference double the megapixels can make. It looks like there’s plenty of resolution left with your D600. The before/after really tells the tale.

Shot in the dark. Would you mind sharing the RAW for #4? I could monkey around and experiment w/o bothering you. Feel free to PM or Email me if you’d rather discuss offline.
