Mandrake

Took a couple of pics using live view, cable release and

tripod as you suggested. The clarity, even under less than

stellar conditions was very good. Would have preferred to

be outside on a nice sunny day to test this out but, unfortunately

it is raining so took a couple of pics of stuff in a cabinet. A heron

and a frog of course lol! Anyways, thanks for the advice and I will

be taking advantage of it in the future.

Settings: ISO 200 wide open @55mm on kit lens, f6.3  1/15th second

with tripod.

Beautifully sharp… nice shots.

I actually haven’t tried this technique outdoors yet.

High magnification live view with manual focus is probably more suited to product shots.

Mandrake

I will be taking some shots with the above method

outdoors (when it quits raining here!) and I think the

clarity will be great. After I took the 2 shots I posted I

re-calibrated my 18-55 slightly and the lens is even sharper!

Not by much – but marginally. I am really impressed by both

the 35mm prime AND the 18-55mm kit lens capabilities. Really

glad I decided to go with the tripod purchase as it opens up

different possibilities not available by hand held shots. Thanks again

for the info you supplied.

Dale.

I found a short video on the technique.

The first shot’s focus is good but i don’t know what is shining like a blue light at the bottom left end?

And the second shot has come out very nice with adequate sharpness at such low light conditions..

Mandrake and Dale..

I just looked through Nikkor 40mm 2.8g Micro lens online and watched the reviews on youtube..

It seems that they say this lens could be replaced by both the standard prime lenses i.e. 35mm 1.8g as well as 50mm 1.8g.

I am really confused now..as this lens is capable of having great sharpness and it can do micro…

Shed some light on this confusion…
