Here are some pictures I took at sunset atop Oroville Dam, I bracketed the exposures and used Photomatix to combine them, then finished them in Lightroom.  I found it a bit challenging shooting directly into the sun in some of the shots.IMG_4265_6_7_tonemapped-1.jpgIMG_4274_kk-2.jpgIMG_4364as.jpgIMG_4469_70_71_fused-Edit-Edit-1.jpgIMG_4502a-2.jpgIMG_4514_5_6_tonemapped-1.jpg

The first two are very dramatic and, IMO, the best of the lot.
HDR processing can be very difficult and you are off to a good start.
I like it best when the images show the full dynamic range without looking obvious.

I agree with Mandrake… can you give us some feedback on  Photomatix?

Michael…

I downloaded a no expiration trial of Photomatrix awhile ago and it does a nice job
with the only caveat being large Photomatrix logos being placed over the resulting image.

I would guess that it’s still available.
It is well worth the download to see if you like it.
I don’t know that you’ve given HDR a try, so if you have lots of time……
