Beautiful shot, Sam. Great composition and color. Horizon is spot on and I like the short straight line of the lake. The clearing in the clouds really sets off the tree top.

Very Nice… A pleasure to look at. Was there much post processing with color?

It does seem just a bit soft which could be due to the required downsizing here. At 1/30 sec. it is really difficult to avoid camera shake. Did you use a tripod? Otherwise, you could kick up the ISO. I’m not sure if opening the lens more would help as you would lose dof. I tried high pass sharpening with PSE10 and it did a great job on the tree branches against the sky.

Sam,
although the shoot is beautiful, I like that you had with weighted metering mode focusing on the intermediate mountain, give more detail as a whole.
If you analyze the location of this shoot, that could well be compared to(contraluz) or backlighting domain where the sun exposure.
Even in such cases I sometimes I use measuring puntual, as the sensor of the D5000 has very good dynamic range.

However, not take it for granted is a matter of my apreciation, that made you like or dislike.

Thanks Mandrake, Thanks Silky. Thanks for your valuable comments and suggestions

It’s a handheld shot. Unfortunately when I took the photo, I didn’t have my tripod with me.
I should have boosted the ISO or increase the Exposure compensation. But, I gave a try with hand held. Totally shot 8 pictures. 7 of them were blurry and this is the only proper one I got. Just increase a bit of saturation. That’s the only thing I did in post processing.

Very beautiful photo – subject and composition! As for technique: Of cause using the tripod would be idea, but you still pulled it off. You could rise your ISO a bit to get faster shatter speed. Was it lens with VR? But in general it is hard to judge the sharpness by this picture size.

Thank you very much Oksana. Yes, the VR was on. Picture is not very sharp. On full size image, if I look very carefully, I can see very light blur due to camera shake. But it’s hardly noticeable.
