OK
So now I have to get an ND filter because this is a great shot!
No big time over the top HDR – just a clean image with incredible colours and clarity.
That is what a picture should look like.
Really nice mscharff and I hope you take many more like this with your ND filter.
Dale.

I don’t think I did anything to this photo other than crop it a little

1/5th @ f/16…. interesting.
I assume the camera’s metering and suggested exposure settings work as usual,
so that there are no calculations necessary when using the filter.

Does the filter do anything in addition to allowing a slower shutter speed?

Addendum:  OK, I looked it up.  The filter also, logically, allows for larger aperture
sizes giving greater DoF which otherwise would not be possible.
I’m with Dale.. gonna buy one, or probably a few.  I have both 52 and 58mm diameters.
And then there’s the question of how many stops.
I gotta go think about this.

Would love to get a neutral density filter and take some long exposures at the ocean. Have seen
some incredible results achieved on youtube videos.
Dale.

This was done with a .9 (or three stop filter)… And no, i didn’t do anything other than put the camera on f16 and selected a shutter speed to get the correct exposure.  Of course, now that I’ve tried this out, I’m thinking the 10 stop filter may be pretty cool as well and get some different results :-).

There are ND filters that can adjust, however, i read some bad reviews on them so I went with the more basic one…

nice one mschraff. True, I’ve heard bad reviews on variable ND filters as well.

Dale,

You can stack multiple filters as well to get a longer exposure.

Thanks Rama… after looking at the shot, I think I should have stepped back a few steps and gotten some additional rocks in the foreground…
