I am also in the market for a tripod, so appreciate the discussion.
I have an old (at least 50 years) aluminum Ensign Junior made in Japan with a pan head.
Actually, I don’t know why I really need a new one now that I think of it.
Anyway….. I’ve also decided a ball head is best… now… what tripod and what head???
Decisions, decisions.
Dale… good luck with your new club.
We will expect you to pass on ALL that you learn. lol

All are beauty shot, but Sam, you have to buy a ND to get more of your ability , If this shot were made with a Gradual Neutral Grey G2 (ND8) it would a fantastic escene, is not spencive you have a wonderfull location don’t loss to explote it.
Good Luck and Congratulation.Silky, could you please explain what ND filter would do to improve these photos?
Yes Oksana: Excume the lateness, yesterday night was when I saw your question.
Normally ND and Polarize filter are use to avoid over expose sky in beaches where UV
is high some times the grade of Polarize has influence intencify color and ND Not it only desminish
light coming in all range of color in other words is blind to color so you can used the mideled range
of your lenses where they works better, so ND Filter allow you be more creative using diferentes aperture.
Using a ND Filter allow you to blow up details in static subjects that the
small f/8, f/11 aperture will not allowed in 30 sec, to 2.5sec shutter speed;
then sea and cloud will apered bluring .
However aparently he used ND Filter, the mistake was used (White balance:Cloudy)
in this picture was used.
In pictures like this I will used as white balance: sunset or dusk dawn F/5.6 ISO:100 and test Shutter speed: acording to
the lens in use. However if you want to be trufully in reproduction of what you see,
then you can set picture control: SD, or NL and not bias at all.In resume:
ND Filter in Seascape, Wather Falls, Claudy sky with moderate wind are used to creative photos.
However in Creative Photos there are not rules, only the Desire and free expresion of the photographer.
