Hi all! My name is Gareth, I’m 35 years old and I live in North Wales, UK.

My interest isn’t so much in photography as it is in astronomy. Astrophotography is something I’ve wanted to try out for a while, and so over xmas I decided it was time to buy a DSLR camera and get started. To get me started, I picked up a Canon EOS 1100D, as I’d read that Canon were the best type for astrophotography.

I stumbled across an Easy Exposure video on Youtube and have just finished watching the whole series. What can I say? They’re excellent! I was clueless on photography last week – I am someone who always relied on the auto modes on cameras (although I managed to get lucky with a cheap compact camera at an airshow last year – when I get time, I’ll post a couple of photos from that!). After watching the first four EE videos, it all made a heck of a lot more sense.

I’ve taken a couple of photos of the night sky from my back garden so far, while we’ve had a break in the clouds. Not perfect by any means, and I’m not quite sure they fall into the “astrophotography” bracket just yet either – they’re just long(ish) exposures of a constellation or two with the bog standard 18-55mm lens that came with my camera, so no stacking or post processing yet. Need some better equipment to do real astrophotography, but it’s all a good start.

Just so that I don’t get it wrong, would astrophotography pictures be best placed in the “Night Photos” section?

I wouldn’t have got far without Easy Exposure though – at least, not as easily! Thanks, Oksana. Great series!

Hi Gareth! Welcome to our community! We are very happy to have you here!
I am glad to hear that my tutorial helped you to learn!

You can place you astrophotography pictures in the Night Photos. Maybe later we can create a special section for astrophotography and move them there.

Looking forward to see some of your work!
Oksana
