Garyc, Warm Welcome to you, I like the flower and blurry background, I think the shot is little overexposed, if you could edit this picture by using some shadow/warm effect, it would be great picture. waiting some more pictures from you.
if you don’t mind, I posted below picture used the said options.

Welcome to the forum! The picture is definitely overexposed.
That’s a problem we all face in bright sunlight sometimes so
don’t worry about it.
Have you watched Oksana’s video covering the “Sunny 16 Rule”?
It’s worth a watch as it has a guide to aperature/shutter speed etc.
I sometimes play around with different aperature openings and shutter
speeds during difficult lighting situations and make notes on what results work
best for me. We are all students of this great hobby and it’s a life long
learning process so go out, take pictures, and enjoy!
And – don’t forget to look for interesting angles and perspectives to give
your picture a personal touch that will set it apart from the crowd.
Dale.
Thank you all for your positive feed back.
This is one of the first photos I took. Since then I have learned a great deal and still learning tons.
I will have a wee muck about in Photo editing.
I did have a little trouble getting the right exposure with shallow depth of field on a sunny day, so I bought myself a ND filter so hopefully this will make things a little easier on me.
Since taking this I have watched the sunny 16 video, It was great and learned loads as usual from her videos.

I have not cropped the image but I do think I could have framed the image a little better. Before I learned anything I choose 400iso film. I now use lower so hopefully the grain will be reduced.
For one of my first shots I was pleased with the result even though I prob would take it a bit differently now.
Welcome to the forum, Garyc! It is a great first try! I think you got some good advises from other members. We all here to learn and improve! Actually grain in this image doesn’t bother me too much. It kind of gives me that film feel, which works for me here. Oh wait, did you shoot it with film? But if you wont to get less grain, use lover ISO.
A bit more sharpness on the flowers would be nice. Also when you are composing the photo, pay attention what is on the edges of your frame. Usually some cut off parts of some subject are distracting.
Thank you for your advice.
Everyone has given me advice I can use also, So a big thank you to them as well.
I think i might try cropping this and post the results.
I did shoot this on film at 400ISO since then I have learned about ISO and have switched down to a lower ISO. Although I would prefer to use 100ISO film I use Agfa vista 200 ISO as I can get this for just £1 which I feel is good for me learning on.
I still love film and i think it still has a place in photography and would be a shame if it disappeared.
I would still want a digital SLR as they can give great results and are very convenient and you can see your results right away which would be great for learning but I can’t afford to get one right now.
