I wanted to find out how the d7100 would handle high ISO so I took a couple of
shots of a deer @ 6400.
I will not be running to the nearest print shop to have them blown up for framing, BUT,
for putting on easy exposure or looking at in small size they aren’t too bad.
Loss of colour and some smearing of detail is evident, along with grain from noise.
High ISO is definitely the domain of full frame but for low to mid ISO numbers this
camera does a really nice job of producing very good images.
Night and low light shots are easy with a tripod and remote release @ low ISO levels.
Apart from price, high end professional quality cameras demand the best glass and are
heavy as hell to lug around.
I like the weight of the d7100 and the picture quality even with an18-55 kit lens is clean and
very detailed. My 35mm prime on this camera really produces sharp and detailed results.

I agree, I think they look pretty darn good for such a high ISO!

Thanks mscharff – I was not expecting much from 6400iso so I was pleasantly surprised that the images were
at all useable. Didn’t have to do major cleanup in Lr either. My wish list now includes quality glass to see what this
camera can really do. A pro quality wide angle and,or a 24-70 would be very nice! Trying to think if I have any rich, old
relatives that are about to pack it in and leave me a bundle in the will lol!!!

Thanks Intekhab for the comment. I was pretty impressed with the way it handled 6400iso. I did do some post
processing but the images were quite useable at smaller sizes. Definitely better than my d7000 at 6400.
Dale.
