Thanks Oksana!  Yes, the pup is mine, her name is Sofia (after Sofia Loren).  That picture was taken just outside Glacier Park in the Flathead National Forest (the peaks in the background are in the park).  Yes, this was definitely a bird portrait month.  I am writing an essay on “roadside raptors” in this area–they sit on telephone poles watching fallow fields for moles, voles, mice, etc.  You can get pretty close to them because they are used to cars whizzing by.  When you stop next to one they check you out for 30 seconds or so before they take flight, usually just to the next pole
