I didn’t know which forum category to place this..hope you don’t mind and i hope some of you might find interest in this also.

Oksana, i did discuss this in a previous post and you gave me a coupole web sites to check out. THis is about how people are pirating photos off of places such as facebook and printing them. I have a bad feeling it’s been going on with me for several years. As you know, i have taken hundreds of photos of friends and aquaintences at different holiday events and biirthdays…..I talked to a lady over the weekend ans she admitted to me she has printed some! But she kept telling me that i need to post them very very tiny on facebook and state if anyone wants them to print, they’ll have to let me know.

But that’s not a great idea beacuse no one can appreciate a 2 x 2 inch image.  I checked out those two siite you suggested to me…but it’s about $5 a month. That can add up especially if no one is interested in buying anything for several months. Besides that, you can STILL download off at least one of those sites you mentioned (zenfolio?)

It aggravates me now because rarely does anyone every make any comments at all on my photos i spend all my time setting up my softbox and everything! Goiing home spending 8-10 hours..sometimes for two days. I might get 38 “likes” and would you believe i might get one, none, or a couple comments…nice photos..    That’s it. This goes on time after time all year round.

I have to do something but I don’t know what. Do you have any other suggestions? I’m about ready to just stop bringing my camera along!

It is a hard one, specially with friends. They will think it is just fun for you unless you make it clear otherwise. If it is just fun for you, then just do it and do not complain. But if you feel like it is not anymore and you just waisting your time, then not bringing your camera where everyone expecting it can be a great idea. You need to decide for yourself if you want it to be your business or not, and treat it as such. I can tell you running real photography business is not easy. People will never appreciate something what they can get for free. Just think about it. If $5 investment/ month is huge for you, people think the same about your pictures. If you are not ready to invest in something you do, people will not want to invest in your either. People don’t appreciate somebodies time.

If you want to do free work, just do it with your heart and don’t expect to get anything in return. If you feel like it is too much for you, just stop doing it! If you want to get paid for it, start treating it as a business. Make it official! Don’t bring your camera. If they ask why, say you don’t do it for fun anymore since it takes up too much of your precious time and effort. If they would like for hire you, your rates are ….

I’m going to a get together today at someone’s house…the same group will be there..quite a few. I’m planning on not bringing my camera or at least leave it in the car. I know i could complain……….it’s very easy to complain. But facts are facts. I’ve told you them. I don’t think i’ll ever forget all the the things i’ve learned with photography because it gave me alot of experiecene, like how far to move the softbox aways with correct flash exposure. Differences in using it indoors vrs outdoors (exposure). Things like that. I’ll still do photos, but just not so much of the party ones.

Let me know how it went. Did they asked why you don’t have your camera?
