Mandrake

You're right - the 35mm focuses slightly faster and clearly has the

advantage with low light shooting. The shots I posted here were not

taken in a pristine environment - there was intermittent sun and shade, along

with calm and breezy conditions (real world stuff) so I'm satisfied that the

images turned out quite well. A studio test would be interesting but I prefer the

results from realistic conditions.

Having a good time with the new toys (lens/tripod & release) and looking forward

to taking lots of shots with both lenses during the next few months.

The 35 should be sharper, without a doubt.

Everything I've read says so and it is what I have found.

Obviously, the 18-55 has it's own advantages.

Outside floral shots will have some subject movement,

so I'm not thinking it's the best of tests considering the slow shutter speed.

Thanks Sam for the thumbs up - really appreciated!

I had to take the pic of that blue (I believe poppy) as it

was the first time I have seen one other than the typical red colour.

Mandrake - I have been playing around with the tripod and remote

release much the way you described but, so far without using Live View

much. I will be using that feature more in the future but I'm still trying to

get used to using the tripod and remote. Using Live View and really getting

serious should be very interesting as I'm really impressed with both the 35mm

and 18-55mm lenses. I've done a comparison with the 18-55mm and 35mm both

@ 35mm using tripod and remote. Settings are: ISO 100 f5.0 @ 1.3 seconds.

See if you can see any difference in clarity between these two lenses - to me they're

pretty damned close and as sharp as I need a lens to be.

Dale. Will post with heading Kit Lens vs 35mm Prime Sharpness Test.

Dale... I do all the exposure settings and auto focusing as usual before switching to Live View, usually in manual camera mode.

I then change the lens to manual focusing with VR off and switch to live view.

I zoom in with the +button (to about 10X, I think it is) and do final fine focusing with the len's focus ring.

I've set the shutter release to 2 seconds so take the shot with minimum vibration.

I gotta say... These shots look about perfect. I don't see where you have anything to work on.

Your bike?
