Thanks for your concern re: dust/oil. No, I haven't figured it out but it's easy enough to
correct in post so I'm not losing any sleep over it. The reason I think they are oil spots
is due to the fact that the lens was taken apart by Nikon service and (I was told) totally
cleaned while repairs being done. I have to beg, borrow or steal another lens to try it on
my camera - if same results then I know it's on the sensor.
Will definitely keep you posted on any new info.

The 5100 kit that I purchased came with both the 18-55 and the 55-300 lenses.
The Northport photos were shot with the 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR which really brings you in close.

I was sorry to see your post re the dust/oil.

Great images! I looked up the shots on your flickr account and you live in a beautiful
area obviously.
Were they all taken with the 18-55 kit lens? If so that is a good, sharp lens for the price!
