The whole point of shooting raw is to have more detail control in shadows and highlights. Our eyes see about 12 stops of light, the digital camera captures about 5 stops of light, so sometimes we get disappointed when the photo doesn't look exactly like we see it. So when there is a high contrast between shadow and highlights we have to choose what is more important details in the shadows or highlights, but if shooting raw we have about 3 stops + and - to recover lost details. In your case there is nothing wrong with your photo from the artistic stand point if you where going for a dramatic HDR kind of an effect. But if you wanted you could get some of the details back in the tree line.

Looks like an HDR image to me with very dramatic and vibrant tones.
My criticism would be - sky and far section of road look but the darkness
of the foreground takes away from the top half - my eye is pulled down to
the "black and white" areas instead of enjoying the rich colour of the upper
half. Hold your hand over the bottom 1/2 and I think you'll see what I mean.
