Search on the focal lengh you are using the most accurate performance in apperture, that's why I mentioned for the 24mm lenght to try the F/8 but of course it's a test on a paper...for landscape maybe the F/11 at 2 seconds, it's a question of trying different things because every place and time of day or night it's different from other.

I'm very fascinated with the 24-70 but I'm very undecided between that one and the 24-120 f/4, mainly because of the big size and weight of the 24-70 for travel and walkarround proposes. I started a topic about this and I'd like you to stop by and give your oppinion when you tried more shoots with your new lens.

Thank you for the link. I got my replacement lens today. Can't wait to go out and try it again. I will definitely try different f-stops and shutter speeds. I'm very excited.
You know, this lens it's heavy but not that heavy. I have a Blackrapid shoulder strap that I attach it to, and it's pretty easy to carry. The 24-120 gives you longer range but it's a bit slower and it's a bit more affordable. Perhaps you could rent them to try them out.
I will definitely let you know how I do my second time out.

I do really like the lens. The lens is part of a three set of lenses. I got the 14-24mm f2.8 and now I bought the 24-70mm f2.8 and later on I will get the 70-200mm f2,8 . I really like the quality of the optics in it. However the reason why I exchanged the lens, it's because the image was very soft and the focal length ring was a bit too tight in comparison to the focus ring on the lens.. It seems like it was defective. I should be getting my replacement tomorrow hopefully this one doesn't give me any issues.

I shot a wedding with a rented Canon 24-70 2.8 and the ring was tight at times too, I think that is to try to prevent the lens from extending unintentionally when it is not being used and angled down. The new Canon 24-70 2.8 has a lock to prevent this so they may have made the ring easier to manipulate.

The reflection I think it's because of the long exposition of 40 seconds, it cause the water to have a milky look. About the F22, I think it's a little too much, and the extreme of the lens...it will be better to opena little the apperture. You got a long exposition but the most small apperture...I don't understand why. Try another at F8 , or F12 with a faster shutter speed, it will work for shure. In what concerns the ISo and WB it's ok but it may be some problem with the AF, is it in single point or 39 focus points? I have the same problem with you, but just because I'm starting to understand the mechanics of landscape photography. Your lens 24-70 F/2.8is the best one in my point of view, and it's a very good aquisition. Dont be disapointed but try again this shoot in the same hour with different settings, and maybe 1 focal point, because camera with two many focal points will try to grab everything in the frame...and that is ok in a faster shutter speed but in a long exposition could result in out of focus.

Hi Mandrake,
Yes, the reflection is weird I noticed it too. But that's how it was captured. I only adjusted the tone map a bit to enhance the colors.
And yes, I hope and I pray the next lens is better.

Hi All,
I took this picture with my brand new 24-70mm f2.8G ED AF-S lens this morning at the golden hour.
D600, ISO 100,29mm, WB: Cloudy,40s,f22

Question
I was very excited to get this lens. However focus was a bit soft (leaning towards blurry). I took about 83 frames and I was only able to save about only 5.
Needless to say. I'm returning it to Amazon and getting a replacement. Has anyone encounter the same issue?
