I love the look of film as well, Brian! I have go and shoot some film soon. I have a few old cameras, I've never used. I really wish I had more time.

I think everyone should try to shoot some film during learning process. You will think much more what are you doing, because you have just so many frames and you don't see right away what you are getting.

I agree totally Oksana. WHen you take the cost of film, and development into consideration, it is an expensive endeavour compared to digital. However, you are forced to think about every shot before you take. You can't fire the camera like a machine gun like you can with digital and just pick the best one out of a 1000. With film you need to be more conscious, and conserving.

Wow! What an adventure! But as Mandrake said, you will definitely remember this trip. We are very happy to have you back on the forum!

Some beautiful images you got there! I am sure you were much more thoughtful about every picture while shooting film. So it is a good thing.

These images will, I'm sure, be a treasured reminder of this time spent with your daughter.

Excellent photos Brian, both here and as expanded on flickr.

Sorry for the long absence, it has been a crazy month.

Before I share some pictures I thought I would share my adventure. My daughter and myself went on a meditation retreat in Cascais, Portugal for a week, then spent a few days in Lisbon.

On our first night, I fell, quite badly. Broke both of my thumbs (I thought...more details on that later), horribly skinned my knees and elbows. I will be scarred for life apparently. That was over a month ago...and just got results back from doctors that my thumbs aren't broken, but I 'royally buggered them up' as my doctor put it. So I have gotten steroid shots into my hand...and the swelling and pain is finally starting to subside.

I brought two cameras with me...my Canon Powershot SX50 and my Mamiya 645e medium format film camera (with 16 rolls of film). On day 3 my Canon just died. Lens error. So that ended my taking of picture willy nilly. I had to rely on film, and be selective at that.

Rest of trip went great...we ate well...very well. Had great meditations and I got addicted to the most amazing espresso.

Coming home, they pulled me into security with my daughter on suspicion of kidnapping. Apparently someone told security in Amsterdam that a single man had a kidnapped daughter. Guess who was the only single man on the flight with a daughter. Yep...this guy. It was odd, they made everyone on the plane show their passports, etc before even exiting the plane. We got questioned then. Then after getting luggage we had to do it all over again, but this time they interviewed Julianna too. It was pretty scary actually, but disconcerting because we left Canada with no issue whatsoever. Coming home however, and it was a big fiasco.

I sent my camera into Canon, and they repaired it (under warranty). Not sure of the exact problem but they replaced the entire optics system (according to the paperwork sent with the camera). Works perfect again.

Got all of the film developed and scanned in.

And now the moment you have been waiting for:

I realize that all of the pictures i have linked to are film. In the full gallery set there is digital as well.

Enjoy.
