I`ld like to add to this and say hi to Eric and Nikonguy from the other side of Canada, Nova Scotia. I just signed up the other day after purchasing my first DLSR, a Nikon D5100. I must say that this site and the video tutorials are the best I have found thus far for learning about beginner photography; hats off to Oksana, your the best! I look forward to more learning, being inspired and sharing a bit of my side of the world, as I love to take pictures of my beautiful province and the outdoors in general. I`m a true country girl at heart, so you will probably see a lot of photos of animals, wilderness, ocean and my favourite, old barns. Can`t wait to share, although I know I have a lot to learn before becoming any where near as good as some of you at the art of photography, but I look forward to joining a great group to help me along my way.

I agree with everyone too... What I wanted to say is that i'm used to P&S cameras which have a macro function that permits closeups from a few inches. This is something I miss and cannot do since I bought my dslr, my lens has to be like a feet away to focus.
And for the speedlite, well I mostly take pictures inside so it's something I really want. I had met a guy during a trip and I was stunned how efficient his flash was compared to my built-in one. I'm very satisfied with my 18-135mm lens. It does everything i want, reading here and there, i know some lens are faster and better in low light so it's on my wish list!

Thanks all.!

Hi Eric, absolutely agree with Mandrake and Oksana. A lot of new photographers when watching youtube videos and reading photography blogs see that other photographers own a lot of expansive gear and think that the only way to get to their level is to get more gear. But in the real life it doesn't matter how expansive your oven is, it is you who mixes the ingredients.

Eric... Your gear bag is not all that light.
Before you buy more I would suggest you become totally familiar with what you have.
You really do have more than enough to learn what you need to know.
It should get to the point where you need not think to know what to do.
Then .... invest in those things that you know from experience, that you need.

Hello to everyone, I live in the suburbs of Montreal city, I'm just a casual photographer mostly for family and kids with a strong interest for photography. Just acquired a dslr for xmas, it's my first, and decided to learn new skills in photography.
Never followed any course aside from all Oksana's videos wich got me here. Those videos were quite precious and learned a lot from them. I posted a few photos and got lots of tips and constructive comments wich will help me in the future. Looking forward to sending shots to learn even more.

My gear bag is quite limited for now, need to buy a few things like a speedlite and few lens (macro and portrait lens).
So far i have a Canon t4i with the 18-135mm kit lens.
I also bought a 40mm f/2.8 lens, it was on special at 140$ so i grabbed it.
and a tripod and extra battery.

Once more, thank you so much Oksana for investing time and effort making free courses, we are privileged
to have you as a teacher.

Eric
