I like the lighting in the second shot. did you direct the flash to her face or is it continuous lighting?

Good first tries Melanie. #1 is my favorite. I like relaxed pose and the smile. #2 be careful with the pose where people lift their arms up like that. Almost nobody has perfect armpits, lol. And you will need to retouch them in Photoshop. #3 I like the lightening and the drama. #4 I am not huge fan of tight crop like this and a crooked photo. Also arm growing out of her head doesn't make too much sense. It is just a distraction. If the crop wouldn't be so tight and you could see more of it, it could make more sense. Or maybe if you would see Some hand / fingers playing with her hair.

What an awesome night! I found this group on Meetup.com I think they have them all over the country. Anyway, there was a $30 fee to come and it was more than worth it! There were several professional photographers, all willing to share light meters, pocket wizards, studio lights,... all things I've never tried out before. The 3 hour session also came with a model to work with. There were about 10 other photographers of different levels. I was by far the least experienced, but everyone was more than willing to share and help out. We collectively decided on lighting and what the model was to wear. Then we each had three minute sessions to shoot with three different looks. My post prosessing skills stink : / The only tool I could manage was the spot healing and some color adjustments. Hopefully, I can find a class soon on PSCS6. Anyway, I hope you all can find a Meetup group to try this if you're interested. One thing I came out of this night was watching the pros deal with the model. They made it look so easy, asking her to 'turn this way', 'drop your shoulder'.... I didn't tell her what to do at all, but she seemed to know what she was doing anyway. I think this is one of the many key skills to looking more professional.
