Mandrake... the fob looks like it could be about the size of a golf ball, or possibly slightly larger.
Am I about right on that?
Dale.

The ball is only 3/4 of an inch in diameter. About 2 cm.
The image is much larger than full size.

Very cool watch fob! Also very interesting that when worn with a watch from the waist the symbols
seem to disappear within the ball. Looking at the pic (glad you posted it) the fob looks like it could
be about the size of a golf ball, or possibly slightly larger. Am I about right on that?
Dale.

Mandrake... what was the purpose of the ball? did he wear it?

The Masonic Ball was a common watch fob among Freemasons in the 19th and 20th centuries. They were worn on a watch chain hanging from the waist. I do not actually remember my uncle (Northern England with a very heavy Scottish accent) wearing it, but I'm sure he did at lodge meetings.

Talk about symbolism all over this article. The eye of course stands out
the second you look at it...no need to enlarge the image.
I don't blame you for feeling so proud of his gift to you - I think you are probably
the owner of something that in not exactly seen every day.
Thanks for letting us have a look at this very interesting (and uncommon) object.

To clarify:
I am not a Freemason and know little of the Masonic beliefs.
My uncle was an active Freemason and left this ball to me.
I respect his membership and cherish this token of his life.
He served for many years as a Chief Carpenter for the Cunard Line Shipping Company.
He last served aboard the Queen of Bermuda, a very beautiful ship, built and owned by the Furness Bermuda Line.
