Thanks Vitfoto
I will heed your advice and see what happens. I have heard a lot about the D600 and oil
issues too and I don't know why Nikon isn't doing something about it if it is true.
By the way - a little dust or oil on the sensor will not make me part with my d7k - that's a
minor inconvenience compared to all the benefits of owning this camera.

I think this might be sensor dust try to close the aperture as much as the lens will go and shoot the sky again the spots should get smaller and more sharp. I never heard d7k having any problems with oil on sensor I think it was d600 that had that issue. Good luck!

I thought it may be lens related but I'm leaning towards dust or oil on sensor because
I recently had an autofocus issue with this lens and Nikon assured me that they took
the lens apart, replaced the defective autofocus mechanism and gave the lens a thorough
cleaning. The lens is 35mm taken @ f9 with a 1/1250th shutter speed.
If I can get my hands on another lens to test I will...thanks for the advice.

This looks like a sensor or lens dust. What aperture did you have for this shot? Did you try different lenses? I had the same problem with one of the lenses in the past.

I took this photo directly into the sun to show what I feel are
oil spots on my D7000 sensor. Often seen with bright pics
of blue sky and always in the same areas.
Easy to delete in post processing but they are still annoying
and Nikon needs to address this issue.
