Last image is definitely sharper than the first one. I've taken the exact same image
more than once many times and seen small differences in them...don't know why but it
just happens sometimes.

No, the relief on the china is soft.
The image is as the eye sees it.
If you look at the gold leaf edging, that is relatively sharp.

The shot is at f/16, tripod mounted and timed delayed shutter release.
So it had better be in focus.
