I have the entire Serif suite and have been using it for a few years now. For me as a novice photographer PhotoPlus X6 offers a lot of what Photoshop does without the horrendous price. I have been really pleased with the editing capability of the program and the results I have been getting.

Serif gave me licence to load PhotoPlus onto my two home computers and the laptop I travel with. I am only required to update when I want to and the program is mine to keep without subscription. Serif does release updates, but they are always very reasonably priced.

My thinking is that I would practice the techniques of Photoshop with this less expensive but powerful program and, if I really start getting hooked or serious about my hobby, invest in the more expensive solution when it makes sense to do so. Until then, my photo cash is going toward lenses and other gear.

Photoshop is industry standard, so I would go for Photoshop. You can subscribe to adobe cloud instead of buying it.

I never tried Serif software, so I can't say nothing about it. I think they have a free version you can try out.
