Thanks Michael - appreciate the compliment!
I think that the original is usually the one that turns out looking the best. It's ok to
play around a little to bring out highlights etc. but seems too easy to get carried away
and end up with an image that looks more like a cartoon than real life.
Dale.

Mandrake
I like the original too. I've never really been a fan of HDR and "over manipulation"
of photographs. I don't have a problem with "tweaking" a pic to bring out the highlights
a little or adding a little saturation to the colours if necessary BUT I really think that the
purpose of photography is to see the subject and attempt to faithfully reproduce it as closely
as possible. Nature did pretty well with the original scene so why mess it up lol!
And besides - we pay a lot for cameras and lenses and tripods and and and...I could go out
and buy a $100 point and shoot and run the pictures through Photoshop/Lightroom and duplicate
a shot taken by a $5000 professional DSLR with a $10000 lens on it!
Your point is valid.
Now unfortunately I'm outa here because I have to make a living and the Government is waiting
for my tax dollars.

To be honest, I like the original the best.
I suppose my thinking is "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."
On the other hand... It's probably good to experiment in the event you
come up with something much better than you had.

Carry on, good fellow.

A while back I posted an image of a stream that I had changed extensively using
Photoshop. I was asked if I could post the original, and, although I tried to find it,
I must have unfortunately deleted it. So - here are a few that I did going from original
to "stages of unreal" using Ps6 with varying degrees of "posterize" and "plastic wrap" filter.
Wonder if they used something like this in the '60's to make all those images that went so well when viewed
under a black light?
