I have an old version of Aperture in my macpro. And I can shoot tether with the computer. The only thing is that I'm very limited with what I can do with the computer I can click "capture" on the computer and take a photo but I can not do any adjustment (iso, f/ etc). But I can still make the changes directly thru the camera. Also, I can only shoot in Jpeg format. Aperture does not recognize NEF RAW. The new Lightroom 4.2 does recognize the new NEF RAW format but my laptop is 6 years old and does not meet all of the requirements to download the program.. Time to upgrade for a new laptop.

Yes, I have seen a few of those also, it looks to me like they use those small remote cameras with wifi/bluetooth technology inbuilt. To my knowledge most of those types of camera are quite expensive. The programs I have shown above require connection via a cable supplied with my camera (Nikon D7000). The camera is taken over by the Laptop completely and is reasonably inexpensive. I bought my laptop whilst it was on special in a Dick Smiths Shop, so I came out okay on the deal. To be honest it is good fun running on the laptop, seeing the image on a nice large screen in brilliant color as you would see if you were looking at the view panel. You can edit immediately, save to Laptop immediately etc etc ....

Thanks fro sharing. I saw a video of a guy who works in nature, capturing wildlife and some dangerous species on macrophotography, and seems he was using his laptop from a remote place where was instaled his camera. Maybe he's using those kind of programs with some wi-fi comunication.

Strongly suggest you get the cinematographer pro for video also. It looks great on laptop whilst setting up and running.

This all looks quite interesting. I have a Nikon D5100, iPhone 4S, and and iPad2. From a brief look at this website the Control My Nikon program may very well work with this equipment.

I will have to check it out. I would love to be able to view and compose on the screen of my iPad or operate the camera remotely from the iPhone. There is a good amount of free instructional videos which would be very helpful. Thanks for the information.

If you have a laptop computer and own a Nikon DSLR the following 2 programs may interest you.

1. Control My Nikon

This program allows you to control your camera while in still photographic mode from your Laptop. This program works with many Nikon DSLR cameras.

2. Cinematographer Pro

This program allows you to control your camera while in video mode from your Laptop. This program to my knowledge only works with the Nikon D5100 and D7000 to this time.

I have purchased both programs at $29.95 each to this time, and highly recommend. I have trialled them out at home connected to my laptop and have to admit that seeing the picture I want to take in full colour on my laptop screen instead of the view finder on my camera is something to behold. I can't believe the control I have over the Camera from the Computer, amazing. You can also run from a PC and Tablets that can run Windows programs.
The cost shown above is a very reasonable price for the Software in my opinion, as you also get about 20 tutorial videos to download for free, which are extremely helpful.
I am in the process of putting together something that will allow me to take my Laptop with me when I am away from home doing my photography.

ps .. The only other Software I know of for Nikon DSLR camera is Nikon Control Pro at $130 approximately.
(From what I have read on this program it doesn't run Video mode but I may be wrong, if so, apologies in advance). From reviews I have read, my two programs are just as stable and equal if not better than the Nikon software product. Also, most of the forums I have joined in relation to Nikon Products have a major theme that Nikon should be giving this software away free to Purchasers of their Cameras. I agree.
