The 50mm f/1.8G (35mm equivilant of 75mm) would be the best as you plan portrait photography.
It's an auto focus lens, but can easily be switched to manual simply by turning the focus ring.

I would say you should go with 50mm f1.8G. It is a great lens for a great price. It is kind of in the middle between 35mm and 85mm. For portraits 35mm is usually too short and can give you a lot of distortion. I use to used it so for full body when I had limited space. 85mm is a classic portrait lens and is probably the best out of 3 for that purpose, but it is 2 times more expensive. In some cases you might find that you don't have enough space behind you to get everything you want in the frame with 85mm.

Oksana is definitely the right person to ask about lenses (and anything else
to do with photography) but I will give you my opinion and why I like the choice
I made. I bought a 35mm f1.8 prime and really love it. It's light, inexpensive, fast, and
very very sharp.
No image stabilization on this lens but that has never bothered me. I use it on a D7100
and have no regrets on buying it.
That's just my opinion though and Oksana will steer you in the right direction when she's
online.
Get out there and take some great pics to post so we can see them!

I am totally new to DSLR photography and have just bought a Nikon D7100 + a Tamron 18-270mm lense for Christmas. 

I was wondering that if I had to buy just the 1 fast prime lens, mostly for night, evening street and portrait photography, based on your experience, would you recommend a 35mm, 50mm or a 85mm and why? I'd be grateful if your advise is based on best value as opposed to technically perfect or most expensive!

Also would you have an opinion on whether this lens be manual or auto-focus, given my noob status!
