I agree with Dale. You should send the camera and the lens to the service center. You also have to keep in might that 18-200mm is more difficult to fine-tune then prime lenses, due to changing focal length of the lens. Did you try any other lenses of your camera? Do you have the same issue?

I really would suggest that you send the camera to an authorized

Nikon repair center for adjustments. If the camera is still under

warranty they should take care of it at no charge.

I had a problem with a lens not autofocusing and I had the dealer

that I bought it from ship it to Nikon. The lens was returned in perfect

working order.

Good luck with the issues you're having and wish I could be of more help

but I do think sometimes it's best to let the professionals handle the

problem.

thank you for taking the time and reply. i have seen this clip but it does not help.

I have switch the camer to to maual focus so the lens has automatic affect/control - it is all manual. The AF Fine tunning has to do with the accuracy of the focus on the sensor not the visual (as seen thru the viewfinder). Oksana address the issue in her Lesson 18 and i am hopping someone with knowldge of the problem can shed some light.

Before I say anything... understand that I know nothing about this problem.

I only comment as the first item on your list is "manual focus". If this means that you switched the lens from auto to manual focus, then I do not see how anything else matters as the lens will keep the focus as it was the last time you touched it.

Anyway, I did find this video... it is for the D7000 and may be helpful.

I have Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-200mm zoom lense.

The camera is backfocusing with about 0.7 in behind the DOE with close up shots.

I watched the wonderful lessons (Lessons # 1-9, 17, and 18) provided by Oksana to refresh myself on the science and art of the photography.

I tried to adujst the autofocus AF Fine Tune but i am not having much luck to bring the camera to fine the desired fine tunning. the set up i used are as follows:

- manul focus

- hold the camer on tripod

- shoot via self timer

- used single and middle focus point.

- object consisted of a card board with template of fine lines showing circles, squares, cross, diamond shapes, set in front of the camera with 45 degres

- Object is about 3.25 feet from the camera

- aperature is 4

- shutter speed 500 (set by the camera)

- ISO: 100

when i adjusted the AF fine tune between -15 thru 0 to +20, nothing happened. Regardless of AF Fine Tune setting, best focus was showing at about 0.7 inch behind the targeted focus point (DOE).

Any suggestion for how to fix/tune the camera to fix the focus problem? or i need to send it to Nikon for repair?
