This seems to have lost the stars, so I'm thinking that you adjusted the whole image.

And... it was not really a suggestion.... more of a guess of what might work.

Mandrake, I ran it thru lightroom a second time as you suggested...well I think I ran it the way you suggested heh...let me know.

This is probably not the right answer, but just take two shots and paste the moon into the clear star shot... As I said, probably not the purest solution, but it would work and could be done very easily :-).

Great problem. I don't think it has a solution outside of post processing.
I would try in RAW and reduce the exposure of the moon with the Light Room adjustment brush for a start.

Anyone know a way?

Hey all! My first attempt at a night shot. While I feel it came out okay....I'm puzzled as to how to make it so both the stars and the full details of the moon are present in the same pic. all my attempts end in either a complete fuzzed out pic, or having one in focus but not the other.

pic details:

nikon d5100

f stop: 3.5

shutter speed: 3 seconds

iso: 1250

focal length: 20mm

max aperture: 3.6
