Thanks Madman!

Wizpc1 - photo is natural with only a white balance adjustment since I shot it indoors and raw to jpg coversion done. You are right that its not vibrant but that's pretty much how it is. Thanks for the tips on AF confirmation light, for this i used live view at 10x to make sure it was sharp, at f/1.4 your dof is so thin on a 50mm but what you miss in sharpness at f/1.4 you get back in bokeh and artistic rendering

Very nice photo It seems it could be a bit more vibrant though. Just doesn't seem like it stands out (no in your face type of thing)
On another note manual focus on Canon is really easy when you get your lens adjusted for distance hold the shutter button half way down like you would for auto focus look in the eye piece and adjust your focus. You should see a red flash in center and a green light to the bottom right once you have solid green shoot away.

Canon 450d
S-M-C Takumar 50mm f/1.4
Aperture f/1.4
Shutter Speed 1/100 second
ISO 200

Lens is a 40 year old m42 mount manual lens that was developed by Asahi Pentax in 1972 and was considered as one of the top lenses of its day. S-M-C is Super Multi Coated to make reference that this lens had multiple coatings to reduce flare and improve light transmission.
Mounted to my Canon camera with an inexpensive m42 to EOS adapter which also provides AF focus confirmation.
I bought this lens as a cheap way to get to f/1.4 and to improve my manual focus skills.
