Fred & Wilma...but Steve and Emily - any more names like

that and I'm cancelling my membership!

Dale.

Unfortunately the aquarium thought the name

Emily would be appropriate for the new addition.

I totally agree that Octopussy would have been

a far better choice but I wasn't asked for my opinion!

By the way "Steve" was the name of the now freed

male octopus and we all hope he lives happily ever after

in the great waters off our coast.

Next time I visit the Center I'll make sure and get a few

shots of Emily (if she's not hiding).

Dale.

Very nice, Dale. You are somewhat of a Jean Cousteau.

It took me a second to spot the, soon to be eaten, star fish in the first photo.

Before anyone starts about the use of "octopuses", there are actually three acceptable

plural case words for octopus, octopuses, octopi, and octopodes.

As always, very interesting photos.

I hope he is enjoying his new found freedom.

His female replacement will, no doubt, be named Octopussy. (1983)

This is a small octopus from the waters off British Columbia.

He has a span of over 6 feet and has been returned to the

ocean. The Pacific octopus can have leg spans of 20 feet or more

and are the largest octopuses in the world.

We now have a smaller female that will remain at the Ocean Discovery

Center until she outgrows the tank - then she too will be replaced.
