The reason I'm considering the 70-300 is because I do
have the 70-300 on my Canon Rebel and it has really
worked well for telephoto shots. When the time comes I will
try a few out on my camera and see what works best for me.
Melissa - I have an old Canon Rebel and I do have the 18-55 kit
lens, and bought a 50mm prime and the 70-300 telephoto.
Whenever I take take pics with the Canon I always use the telephoto.
I have some old posts using that lens that I took pics of nesting herons etc.
Take a look at some of them one day and see what you think.

Interesting. Why the 70-300 and not the 55-300?
I know the AF is a bit faster and that the 70-300 can be used on both FX and DX cameras.
Any other special reason you want this considerably heavier and more expensive lens?

The 18-55 is really a steal for the money (like the 35mm prime!)
I am impressed by this little lens because it doesn't break the bank
and the thing is sharp, sharp, sharp!
I was out earlier this morning taking some more pics to get a better
idea of what I can expect from the lens.
My next purchase is almost guaranteed to be the 70-300 and then I
should be done.
Will be on later to do a few posts from this morning. Have to go to the
mother-in-laws as Ann (my wife) kindly offered our help to weed her gardens
today. My day off and I'm going to be knee deep in damned weeds!!!
And i use the only Kit lens i possess, to explore more and more...
But have to get one prime and zoom lens ASAP..
I do like the kit lens a lot, because its the first lens you ll shoot with and it enhances skills to some extent...
Great shots although Dale...

As you know, I also use the 18-55 and am very happy with it.
It will add much versatility to your 7000.

These are a great example of what it can do.
Apparently, one thing it can't do is make that bird pretty.

Bought an 18-55mm VR kit lens today to see what it could do.
Got the lens, Hoya filter and hood for about $250 Canadian tax in.
Could have saved 50 bucks buying used but, to me the 5 year warranty is
worth the extra money spent. The light conditions were harsh
with bright sun and hard shadows. I think the lens did pretty well. I have
7 days now to beat it to death and return it for full refund, or, enjoy it and keep it lol!
