Great focus! How many pics did you take to get one in focus? 🙂 I know for me it would have been a lot...

Hey mscharff,

Thanks for commenting. yeah I shot several and I had this manual focus problem, a newer "G" lens will come to my rescue in a couple of days. I got some not so close to the face and several others with eyes blurred out..

The child is adorable and yes, the focus is excellent under the circumstances.
f/4 didn't give you much depth of field and you got the eyes spot on.
I might have gone with a higher ISO and a smaller aperture opening, but this really worked for you.
I would imagine that a 3/4 profile, such as this, results in many more facial features being on the same plane.
Great post processing as well. I think portraits are the most difficult.

Mandrake,

Thanks for the comments. Yes the gaze into something 'above' defined more facial features. I din't ask/ insist him to stay so , he just did.. and I'm pretty sure he'll never give the same pose again... (he's busy playing and never stay a second still- NOT until i manually focus ...hahahaha)

Wanna learn some serious post processing.. mind if I post a raw and let you do the magic and later compare it with my own processing ?

Thanks again

What a cute little boy! Look at those eyes and cheeks. Great focusing, especially manually.

I would love to see another photo where he looks at the camera.

Well...thanx for all the compliments ... Yeah I feel really good for getting those eyes tack sharp, given the terrible circumstances.

Will post more of him and with my new 'G' lens I think i'd get rid of troublesome manual focusing..

Thanks again.

Hey all,

Well, meet my 2 year old nephew chilling out, looking into 'something',... hah. Shot it with a little intention of post processing, and

I used Lr5. Always welcome comments of all sorts as usual

ohh almost forgot... do you believe that I manually focused this ?? :O yup... u read it right .. its a 50mm 1.8D (so on my D5100 with no focus motor built in,I had to focus it myself) ... and with 2 yr old kids...it was harrrrrrrrrrrrd as hell..

here goes Exif data ;

f/4 1/200 ISO 320 75mm (35mm eq.)
