Can't believe that there are morons who would do that
to kittens (or any other animals for that matter!) Would love
to stuff some of those a-holes in garbage cans and seal them
in. At least there are people like you who are life savers when things
like this happen and you now have a great friend who also is very
photogenic.
Nice shots Brian!!!

Oksana,

Well the first pictures I took were all blown out, so I kept speeding up the shutter speed to compensate (I am just learning remember).

I did watch the lesson on Flash, but I think I need to re-watch it haha. Part of the problem was that originally I had the flash directly on the subject at full power, and that was what was blowing out the pic. I changed the direction of the flash to bounce off of the walls, and lowered the flash power to 1/4 (I believe). I guess I had left the shutter speed at 1/2000, but as you said, with the sync it would have been 1/250.

Your camera has a sync speed of 1/250 sec, so even if you set your speed to 1/2000, it will shoot at your sink speed.
Also what was the reason for you to set your shutter speed to 1/2000 at the first place?

Did you watch my last video about flash?

Really nice photos, Brian.
I especially like the first and assume there was some cropping involved in Lightroom.

I know virtually nothing about shooting with speedlights, but will give my two cents anyway.
Cameras have a maximum shutter speed when shooting with an active flash.
I believe the speed is usually 1/200 or 1/250 of a second, depending on the camera.
The shutter can be set to stay open longer to catch ambient light, but not any shorter.
Even though you set your shutter speed to 1/2000, it defaulted to the flash sync speed as you were using the speedlight.

I would suggest you google "flash sync speed" to get an understanding of it all.
It's not particularly easy. Front Curtain... Rear Curtain... Yada, Yada, Yada.

Here is a little story about my baby. She is 13 years old now...and was found in the garbage (with her sisters) at Tim Horton's (Canadians will know).

Anyway, I adopted her when she was about 2 weeks old. Bottle fed her, and she thinks of me as her mother and father. She hates most people though, but she is unique and still my furbaby.

I just bought a new flash for my camera (Canon Speedlight 430EX II) and she was my test subject.

All of them were taken at f/5.6 1/250 ISO 100 (that is what the exif says, but i am sure it was 1/2000 sec)
