The kid was walking off the field, I raised the camera and took the shot before he went past me.

It looks like you were up against some harsh conditions with these shots.

I think deensani makes a good point in using the flash to soften or eliminate

the shadows. I generally don't use a flash but in a case like this I would probably

consider it. 

Your grandson looks to be a fine young man and obviously you are a proud grandpa!

Your auto-focus points missed his 2 eyes. The shadow on the right side of his face ruined the image. I would have used the built in flash to scare away the shadow.
