Get a 35mm 1.8 and use yourself as the zoom in and zoom out.
It's under $300 and a really light and sharp lens.
The 18-200mm is a really popular lens (as Oksana stated) because it is rally all most people
need and it's relatively light weight - but it is a little pricey.
Whatever you choose take your time and test them out on your camera first before purchasing.

Yes, kit lenses are less sharp, focus slower, more difficult to achieve a shallow DoF, but it doesn't mean you can't get a good photo at all. Sometimes when I travel I use my 18-200mm, because it is light and gives we a wide range of focal lens.
For professional work I usually use: 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 50mm F1.4 and 85 F1.8.
24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 are pretty pricy and heavy as hell. But 50mm is very affordable and light. I would't even recommend 50mm f1.4, because 50mm f1.8 is cheaper and does a good job. For crop sensor body I also used 35mm f1.8, which is cheep too.
It also all depends what type of photography do you use your camera for.
