I read and I read.... and Dale, now I'm thinking you're right. This is the best (except maybe for the Leica M, but we won't go there) camera for street photography. Getting used to its focal length limitations will be part of the fun.

and the other shots are good too with adequate light on the subjects!!!

Dale... I've given the Fujifilm x100s very serious thought. As you say, the reviews have been superb
and there is little doubt that this is an excellent camera.

The big drawback for me is its' fixed 35mm equivalent lens. That's it. No zoom and no changing lenses.
I just think this would be too confining, even for street photography which would be the camera's primary role.

The Fujifilm x-e1 has an APS-C sensor and an already nice selection of lenses.
I would start with two, the 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 zoom and the 35mm f/1.4 prime.

Oh yeah I quite agree. I take ok pictures...with a fancy camera I will still only take ok pictures. I fully understand that.

That being said, it is a pretty nice camera, and since it is shiny and cool, I want it

I don't need that camera. I would be more than content with a 5D Mark II. In a few years though when I am ready to upgrade and a 5D Mark IV or Mark V is out, the Mark III will be reasonably priced.

I've seen incredible images taken with cellphones and really really

cheap cameras. Please don't think that 10K in camera gear is

going to improve your photography - it won't. I would love to own

a Nikon D600 or a Canon 5D Mk.3 but that aint gonna happen any

time soon. If I was Mandrake and looking at a new camera I would

seriously consider the Fuji 100s - the reviews on youtube are great.

You have posted some really great pics and you do NOT take bad pics

with a cheap camera! If you win the lottery and decide to spend huge

amounts of cash on the best gear, remember - all that incredible new

camera is going to do is give you lots of bells and whistles to make

live a little easier but it sure isn't going to turn you, or anyone else into

a great photographer - you have to do that yourself!

That's my sermon for today lol...Dale - hang in there Brian

Nice dream, Brian... You've set your sights high.
I've never used a Canon dslr, but I read great things about this one.

Good luck.
I hope your dream comes true.

I am toying with saving up for a few years to get a Canon 5D Mark III. Now the body is over 3000 so this is probably just a pipe dream. I figure since I take bad pictures with my cheap camera, I am bound to take the BEST bad pictures with a better camera haha.

As much as I want to get that in the future, I am sure I won't ever get that one. When the time comes to get a new camera, I will be getting a low end DSLR probably. Provided it can do all that my existing camera can do. Who knows, my tastes may change by then.

I can dream, can't I?

I'm always thinking of an easy walk-around.

I almost bought the Olympus OM-D E-M5, but now have
decided on the Fujifilm x-e1.
(I wish they would come up with easier names to remember.)

You have to get used to crowds at any public event. I go to

car shows and try to get there really early so I can get a few

good shots before the unruly mob shows up lol!

Hang in there with the crowds and you'll get some great pics

with a little patience (and the odd shoving of jerks out of the way).

Thanks. I already have my next camera picked out. Just going to need to save up a lot for a few years haha. They had everything there you could want for products, camera, lenses, backdrops, lighting, you name it, they had it. And all of the brands I have heard of, even others I hadn't.

My only complaint, and it really wasn't the fault of the show, but there was just way too many people. It was like trying to get through a crowd, and I am not too good with large amounts of people (social phobia). But so many people there and they were all excited about photography, so it was quite electric.

It does seem that you've found some interesting subjects.
I used to date a Hell's Angel with a tattoo. You have reminded me of that.
She was the only woman in the NY chapter allowed to drive a bike. I didn't ask why.

Anyway.... Nice set of photos.
I'm happy that you enjoyed the show.

This was my first photo show, and to be honest I was overwhelmed. There was so many people and so much technology. I attended two classes, on portrait lighting and outdoor photography. They were quite informative.

They were models set up (all part of selling products of course), and live exotic animals, and of course lots of camera and video gadgets.

I asked one vendor if they had any film and got laughed at and he said 'you do know this is digital only'...and of course, I didn't.

Anyway here are some pictures.
