Hi purplewave. I don't think it will matter, especially if you're shooting in RAW. Since you'll have the gray card in the shot with your subject and you'll be using the White Balance Selector tool in Lightroom, you should be good to go. But I always try to start with the setting that makes the most sense for the situation you're in -- if you're outside and it's sunny, use the sunny setting. Just use RAW and you can make easy adjustments afterwards.

Experience is the best teacher. Take a few test shots using Daylight, Shade, Fluorescent, etc. and find out for yourself if it will make a difference. The initial shot will have a color cast depending on which setting you picked, but that will instantly disappear once you use the white balance tool.

Also, Oksana did an excellent tutorial on exactly this topic. Lesson 22. Good luck!

Hi, just a quick question. If I were to shoot the subject with a grey card for white balance adjustment in LR or to set custom WB on my camera, what WB setting should I use in my camera? Auto? or the appropriate presets? Thank you.
